Local Resources for Better Living

Youth are the adults of tomorrow, and we noticed a big acceptance from them concerning teachings related to the environment. A majority of them have good knowledge of the names of plants and trees, and therefore it becomes easy for them to link our teachings with the plants they know. A majority of our audience is made of youth, because their open-mindedness has showed us that they can be an effective agent of change.

In 2017-2018, we’ve taught youth and farmers on the production of compost and insecticides through the use of local plants.

Local communities have often little understanding of why trees matter to human life, ignoring that they contribute to replenish wells with fresh water or that they mitigate the impact of climate change in agriculture. Trees also supply families with firewood and can considerably increase families’ yearly net income. Regarding that, youth can play a key role in the understanding of trees by their parents and elders.

Unfortunately, because the years 2020 and 2021 were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, we could only visit a very limited number of schools.
