CONCRETELY, THIS WILL ALLOW US:
  1. To improve the quality of our teaching.
  2. To double the amount of trees planted for free in schools and other projects, with the aim of reaching 30,000 trees by 2020.
  3. The triple of improved stoves built free of charge in private homes and in schools. They reduce the use of firewood by 65%, and have a direct positive impact on deforestation.
HIRING A COORDINATOR AND IMPROVING THE STRUCTURE OF OUR TEAM

The presence of a coordinator will allow us to greatly improve the flow of our activities in the field and thus significantly increase our impact. The sum of the crowdfunding will allow us to finance the material necessary for our tree planting activities, as well as to hire key collaborators for our various activities.

SELF-SUFFICIENCY, A NECESSITY

With a non-employment rate of more than 60% and the price of foodstuffs increasing by 500% several times a year, we must allow these communities to better master their own agriculture. And as the Teso people have been nomadic pastoralists up to less than 100 years ago, they are not traditionally farmers !

So there is just some knowledge missing. Our job is to collect knowledge held by local communities as well as scientists and to disseminate it to young people. For example the production of natural insecticides and manure or the production of specific traditional medicines.

You can also support us by bank transfer, by making a standing order to:

IN THREE YEARS, WE HAVE PLANTED 45,000 INDIGENOUS TREES AND HAVE RAISED AWARENESS OF 40,000 YOUNG PEOPLE.

REFORESTATION IN TROPICAL REGIONS: AMONG THE BEST WAYS TO FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE

Reforestation in the tropics is one of the best known ways to sequester carbon and fight against climate change. In three years, we have planted 45,000 trees from our indigenous tree nursery, mostly in schools.

This year 2019, over 15,000 young people have been made aware of the importance of trees for human life.

TEAM

EMAUA in Kenya is made up of local staff with diverse skills ranging from traditional agriculture to engineering to education. Its 10 members have enabled the organization to develop activities throughout the Teso North region (260 km2, the size of canton Geneva).

These results are due to the strong integration of EMAUA in the local culture and to a fairly horizontal relationship within the team, which brings motivation, autonomy and efficiency.

A SWISS FOUNDER

Julien Kauer is the founder of EMAUA. While studying agronomy, he decided at the age of 26 to leave everything to start a food self-sufficiency project in a primary school in West Kenya. He lived there with part of the team in the local conditions, and learned to speak fluent Swahili. Self-taught with a passion for agroecology and the regeneration of ecosystems, he now lives between Kenya and Switzerland, where he regularly gives conferences and co-organizes the activities of EMAUA Switzerland with the 7 members of the committee.
